Connections and transportation
By plane
There are three international airports which can be used to reach the north of the region. Once arrived another trip by car or by train will be necessary to arrive in Chiavenna.

By train
Chiavenna is reachable by trains departing from Milano (Centrale Railway Station) and Bergamo, usually with a change in Colico. The journey Milano-Chiavenna takes about 2 hours while the Bergamo-Chiavenna one a little more.
Information about train timetables are available on State Railways website:
http://www.trenitalia.it/en/index.html
By car
Chiavenna is not so far from many places in central Europe, so some of you may think to come by car. The Milano area is usually crowded, as well as the roads around the Como lake, so it is better not to plan to cross over Milano. Probably the simplest way to arrive by car is by Lugano lake and Porlezza lake (low altitude and little snow). In warm winters it is possible to directly arrive through the Maloja and maybe the Splugen passes.
It's also possible to rent a private car outside every airport and railway station. All the major companies (Europcar, Avis, Hertz, ecc) have an agency and all information needed for renting can be found at their web sites.
By bus
Chiavenna is connected to nearby cities by some bus lines, and information about those services are available on Lombardy website:
http://www.infopoint.it/trl_index.htm
Anyway, the easiest and fastest way to reach Chiavenna is by train.
Milano, however, is reachable also by busses coming from many European countries and cities. Information are available f.e. at www.eurolines.com
Connections and transportation
Bergamo railway station is connected to Orio al Serio International Airport by a public bus line. Information, timetables and prices are available at:
http://www.atb.bergamo.it
Milano Centrale railway station is connected to Linate International Airport by Starfly Bus Service. Buses in Linate can be found outside the Arrivals Level and there's a ride every 30 minutes.
For information, STARFLY: +39.02.5858.7237 or http://www.sea-aeroportimilano.it/
Otherwise, you can get a taxi, as Linate is far from Milano only 7 Km. The fee for reaching Centrale Station could be more than 20 €.
Milano Centrale railway station is connected to Malpensa International Airport by a bus service called Malpensa Shuttle. The trip takes about 50/60 minutes depending on traffic. Buses can be find outside the Arrival Level and information on timetable and fees are available on these website:

Beside, there's a train service (Malpensa Express) connecting Malpensa with Cadorna Station, a little secondary station in the centre of Milano. The trip lasts about 40 minutes.
Once arrived in Cadorna Station you'll have to transfer by taxi or by metro to Centrale Station to get the train for Chiavenna.
