Time table:
- 8.00 departure from Hotel Aurora (Chiavenna) to Novate Mezzola (bus transportation included in the Conference fee)
- 9.00 excursion departure from Novate Mezzola
- Around 13.00 lunch (included in the Conference fee)
- 15.00 approximate return to Novate Mezzolaa
Description:
Departure point: Novate Mezzola - 200 m a.s.l.
Maximum height of the excursion: 920 m a.s.l.
Tracciolino is a panoramic path at a middle altitude, that joins the two alpine valleys of Val Codera and Val dei Ratti. Set on an old hydroelectric railway, the path has an high historic value and it was also an important itinerary used by Italian partisan during the Second World War.
It allows a panoramic view on Valchiavenna, on Monte Legnone and on Natural Reserve of Pian di Spagna and Lago di Mezzola.
The participants will walk on an easy mule track, even if often exposed, and will meet alternatively open areas and narrow passages with galleries.
Valle Codera and Valle dei Ratti host typical alpine bird species, but the low altitude of the path is planned to observe above all species like the Wallcreeper, Blue Rock-Thrush and Rock Bunting.
It will be also possible for the participants to carry on in the path upwards, to occasionally observe Golden Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Black Grouse, Rock Partridge, Crested Tit, Ring Ouzel.
Common, even if difficult to observe, is Eurasian Eagle-Owl.

Difficulty degree:
The path is easy, but in April it?s likely to find wide ice covered areas. Birdwatching on the exposed parts of the track needs an high level of prudence.
The excursion is not particularly difficult but it is quite long and people not used to mountain excursion could find it very tiring.
