Ornithological excursion
Val Gerola - Orobie Valtellinesi Park |
Time table:
- 8.30 departure from Hotel Aurora in Chiavenna to Pescegallo (bus transportation included in the Conference fee)
- 10.00 excursion departure from Pescegallo
- Around 13.00 lunch (included in the Conference fee)
- 15.00 approximate return to Pescegallo
Description:
Excursion in Val Gerola, from Pescegallo (1454 m a.s.l.) toward Val Tornella (about 200-300 m height difference).
The participants will walk with snow-shoes (through a path along a wonderful mountain spruce forest with silver firs and larches, and a more open area with mountain pines and rhododendrum).
In the area several species breed: Black Woodpecker, Boreal Owl, Tengmalm's Owl, Crested Tit, Willow Tit, Eurasian Treecreeper. There is the possibility to meet also Hazel Grouses and Black Grouses.

Required equipment:
Waterproof hiking boots, jacket, gloves, hat.
The snow-shoes will be offered by the Park event organization.
Difficulty degree:
The excursion is not particularly difficult but people not used to mountain excursion could find it tiring.
