Chiavenna
Valchiavenna is a long valley you reach turning towards North as soon as you enter the province of Sondrio, coming from the Como Lake. It stretches from the Pian di Spagna to the Spluga and Majola Passes, bordering the Swiss Cantone dei Grigioni by three sides (Engadina, Val Bregaglia, Val Mesolcina).

Chiavenna, located in the middle of the namesake valley, at 333 meters a.s.l., it's its major city and is almost an open-air museum: walking through the streets in the old town centre and looking around you can observe how it has lived a past full of history and extraordinary works of art such as the beautiful palaces, the portals and the fountains made with pot stone, the old wall and the complex of the Collegiate of San Lorenzo with the church, the baptistery, the cloister with the bell tower and the Treasure Museum.

Along the streets of the small town and through wonderful and charming itineraries in the parks, you can taste the tradition of a valley where centuries of history were spent crossing the borders of the Alpine passes which separate Italy from the heart of Europe.
